Epsom Derby Form Guide 2018
Unbeaten hotpot trained by Aidan O'Brien who looks set to start a red hot favourite for Derby glory. Confirmed himself as the best juvenile last year with Racing Post Trophy Stakes success ahead of Roaring Lion, and looked to be even better on first start in 2018 thanks to thrilling 2000 Guineas success at Newmarket. Talk of a tilt at the Triple Crown may be premature but hard to argue with his Epsom claims at this stage. The one to beat.
Royal Lodge winner who has been on the wrong end of the result behind Saxon Warrior twice during his career and needs more if he is to reverse that form. Has improved with every start this season though and scorched to victory in the Dante Stakes at York which is often the key Epsom Trial in the UK. Loved every inch of the extra trip at York which is encouraging and should relish another two furlongs at Epsom.
Chester Vase winner who tasted Epsom for the first time when having a gallop at Breakfast with the Stars for trainer William Haggas. Only had one run in 2017 when beaten at Nottingham in November but has looked a different animal this term and impressed on the Roodee when picking up the Group 3 success. This a much tougher ask but going the right way and likely to be an each-way player.
Jumped into Derby contention with a shock win in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown on early start this season for legendary trainer Dermot Weld. A nephew of Derby winner Harzand so the trip should suit and connections seem convinced he is a top quality animal. Needs more.
