Derby Runners 2018

The full list of runners for the 2018 Epsom Derby will be available closer to the race and will be right here when they are released. At this stage there are still plenty of horses in the field but that will be whittled down as the big race approaches. Saxon Warrior is set to take his chance and he remains amongst the favourites in the latest Epsom Derby Odds for trainer Aidan O'Brien.

S De Sousa M Johnston Form: 312-32 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
A winner at Epsom last year who has improved on two starts this season for Mark Johnston.Needs more but only narrowly beaten by Young Rascal at Chester and clearly going the right way.
2. Delano Roosevelt
A P O'Brien Form: 132-22 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
A winner on debut in a Leopardstown Maiden back in July 17 but has not won in his last four starts being beaten by some big names who line up here such as Saxon Warrior, Nelson (x2) and Hazapour.
3. Hazapour

Nephew to dual Derby winner Harzand who was also trained by Dermot Weld. Winner of a Galway maiden in 2017 before third in the Eyrefield Stakes at Leopardstown and most recently a winner of the Derristown Derby Trial.
4. Kew Gardens
A P O'Brien Form: 241-32 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Beat Dee Ex Bee at Newmarket last season but looks to be below top level on two starts this term. Well beaten in the Lingfield Derby Trial last time out in a messy race and needs plenty more.
5. Knight To Behold
R Kingscote H J L Dunlop Form: 21-1 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Son of Derby Winner Sea The Stars, raced twice as a two-year-old winning at Newmarket beating Bow Street by a neck. One run this season and it was worth waiting for a demolition job in the Lingfield Derby Trial beating Aidan O’Briens Kew Gardens by over 3 lengths.
6. Masar
W Buick C Appleby Form: 13136-013 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Sent off the 5/2 favourite in this year’s Qipco 2000 guineas, stayed on well but could only finish 3rd. However a few weeks previous he destroyed the field in a breathtaking performance in the Craven Stakes at Newmarket.
7. Roaring Lion
Oisin Murphy J H M Gosden Form: 1112-35 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Started his career with a hat trick of wins, the third being the Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket. Kept on well in this year’s 2000 guineas before powering clear to win the Dante Stakes up in trip. Danger.
8. Saxon Warrior
R L Moore A P O'Brien Form: 111-1 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Unbeaten in four starts, the most recent being his convincing victory in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. Hasn’t put a foot wrong so far in his career but has never raced over a mile. Held in very high regard by his trainer.
9. Sevenna Star
R Havlin J H M Gosden Form: 23-1 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Twice placed as a two-year old before romping home by an incredible 14 lengths when seen on re-appearance at Windsor back in April after a wind op over the winter. Most recently claimed the Bet365 Classic Trial at Sandown.
10. The Pentagon
A P O'Brien Form: 6113-33 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Twice a winner as a two-year-old most notably in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes. Sent off the 6/5 favourite for the Derristown Derby Trial at Leopardstown and finished third less than a length behind the winner Hazapour.
11. Young Rascal
James Doyle W J Haggas Form: 2-11 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Owned by Investec Co-Founder Bernard Kantor. After finishing 2nd on debut at Nottingham he’s gone on to win twice most recently in the Chester Vase beating Dee Ex Bee by ½ a length
12. Zabriske
A P O'Brien Form: 018-63 Age: 3 / Weight: 9-0
Has ran OK in two starts this season, in the Derby Trial and Dante Stakes, but both times looked a notch below top class and may be in the field as a pacemaker. Thanks, but no thanks.
